MEDICAL BILLING AND CODING

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 Program consists of 920 hours of training broken down into 790 hrs. of  theory, and 130 hrs of lab.   The content includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding systems, fundamentals of disease process & pharmacology, health care delivery systems, basics of medical records services, ethical and legal responsibilities, safety/security procedures, basic data processing, and employability skills.

 COURSE OBJECTIVE:

 To prepare students for employment in a variety of health care settings as entry level coder, medical record coder, coding technician, coding clerks, or medical coder/billers.  This program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding and demonstration of the following elements: health care delivery system and health occupations, use of interpersonal skills, legal and ethical responsibilities, wellness and disease concepts, safety and security procedures, responding to emergency situations, infection control procedures, computer literacy, employability skills, blood borne diseases, including AIDS, basic math and science, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, coding systems and references, health information services and medical billing.

 ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

 H.S. Diploma, GED or Equivalent in Country of Origin and basic skills grade level as follows: Math 10.0, Language 10.0, Reading 10.0
